I made this address book a couple weeks ago. I found the pencil & clip at at dollar store and thought it matched Tempting Turquoise so well, I needed to create something to go with it. So, this is what I came up with; an address book and note / picture holder.
If your a member of my Technique Club, you already have the basic instructions for the book. Listed below are the templates for the pages:
(When printing the inside pages, print 1 and then flip over and print on the other side. Printing on both sides will save you quite a bit of 8-1/2" x 11"card stock.)
This past week was Teacher Appreciation week and I had to go out of town for my job, so Sunday night I started making a few projects and needed something quick & easy. The theme for one of the days this week was "flower day", so I created these. I thought a corsage would make any teacher feel special for the day and they loved them! I received the sweetest thank you notes and the teachers wore them all week. With tomorrow being Mother's Day, make one for yourself, mom or grandmother to wear and make them feel special too!
I used the Daisies die cut with my Big Shot, but the flower needed to be fuller, so I doubled it and layered them together with a Tombo glue. Attached a Filgree or Circle Brad in the center. Cut 4" piece of satin ribbon, fold in half and attach to the back with adhesive. I then used 1-1/4" circle punch with the same paper I used on the flower and attached to the back to hide the prongs on the brad. Next, I attached an adhesive pin (found these at Wal-Mart in the craft aisle where they sell jewelery making products) on the back. Fluffed the flower and done.
Here's a close up view:

At the last minute I chose to make 20+ of these little baskets using the Bigz XL Baskets & Blooms die, for my sons class. The DSP is Shades of Spring from the Occasions Mini, available until April 30th. I think this paper is absolutely gorgeous. The photo in the catalog does not do it justice. I debated about ordering it and now I'm so glad that I did.
Luckily, these baskets are fast and easy, because I need them to send to school tomorrow. Here's a couple more photos before I filled them with crinkled paper and added Hershey eggs, kisses and rabbits. The kids will be on a chocolate sugar high tomorrow : )
My husband asked me tonight why I do this for Jacob's class every holiday (and I've been doing this for years). My answer was, I remember what it's like to be that age and how good it felt when someone did or gave something nice to me. It made me feel special. I love holidays and why not share that love with a child. Some of the children may think it's nothing more than a little paper and chocolate, but if it makes one of them feel special or brightens their day. ..than it's worth it to me. Basically, that's all it is; a little paper, a little chocolate and a little of my time. Plus, it makes me feel good.
Crafting
with fabric is one of the biggest industry trends right now, and we
aren't just talking quilts! You can create beautiful fabric accessories
and home décor with your Big Shot--even if you don't sew. The Sizzix Big
Shot makes it easy to cut intricate fabric shapes to use in all your
crafting projects.
What type of fabric will the Big
Shot cut?The Big Shot will cut all types of
fabric. How
many pieces of fabric can I cut at a time? That depends on the
fabric. Different fabrics vary in thickness. For example, your Big Shot
can cut through eight layers of cotton, which is a relatively thin
fabric, but it will only cut through one layer of faux fur, which is a
very thick fabric. Do you shim fabric in a Big Shot
differently than paper?No.
Your Big Shot works the same with
fabric as it does with paper. Different fabrics vary in thickness, much
the same as different paper materials vary in thickness. If you are only
cutting one layer of a very thin fabric, you might need to use a piece
of card stock as a shim just as you would if you were only cutting one
layer of thin paper.
Will all Big Shot dies cut fabric? You can cut fabric with any of the Sizzix steel-rule dies
(Originals,
Bigz, Bigz L, and Bigz XL). You cannot cut fabric with Sizzlits,
Embosslits, Textured Impressions Embossing Folders, or Texturz Plates. Will
dies with score lines ruin my fabric? You can still use dies
with score lines to cut fabric. The score lines will slightly distress
your fabric, but shouldn't damage it permanently. However, it's
recommended
that if you are using dies with score lines to only cut one or two
layers at a time (depending on the thickness of your fabric). If you try
to cut too many layers at a time, it is possible that the score lines
could tear your fabric.
Will
cutting fabric with the Big
Shot dull my dies? The Big
Shot steel-rule dies (Originals,
Bigz, Bigz L, and Bigz XL) were designed to work on several different
types of materials.Cutting
fabric with your Big Shot dies will not result in any damage to your
dies, and will not dull them any faster than cutting paper will.
Should
I wash my fabric before working with it? It really depends on
the fabric. Some lower-quality fabrics will shrink after they're washed,
which could result in your project coming apart. However, many quilters
don't wash their fabric first because the fabric is stiffer and easier
to work with before it's washed. And if you use higher-quality fabrics,
they will likely not shrink.
I
don't have a sewing machine. Can I still create fabric projects?Yes! The world of fabric crafting is as
varied as the world of paper
crafting. There are several alternatives to using a sewing machine. You
can create many simple designs sewing by hand using a needle and thread
or even a hot glue gun. In addition, fusible web is a great option for
creating one-of-a-kind fabric crafts.
What is fusible
web, and how does it work?Fusible
web is a manmade fiber that
will melt when heated with an iron and become sticky. When it is placed
between two pieces of fabric, the melting of the web causes the fabrics
to fuse together making it possible for you to adhere the fabric without
the use of a sewing machine. Fusible web is available in rolls (similar
to tape), in pre-packaged pieces, or is sold by the yard in your local
fabric store.
My
quilting friends mention things called
charm packs, layer cakes, and fat quarters. What are they?
Charm packs, layer cakes, and fat quarters are terms for precut cotton
that is generally used for quilting. Charm packs include a variety of
coordinating fabrics cut into 5" x 5" squares. The packs have an
assortment of patterned and solid fabrics, and their small size makes
them ideal for using on quilt blocks. Layer cakes are just like charm
packs, but they are larger in size, with the cotton cut into 10" x 10"
squares. Fat quarters are pieces of cotton cut into quarter yard
segments. However, instead of being cut vertically, like you would cut a
piece of fabric off a bolt, fat quarters are cut horizontally first,
giving you a piece of cotton that measures 18" X 22". All of these
options are a great way to get a good selection of fabrics at a
relatively inexpensive price.
I
hope this answers some recent questions. If not, please let me know. Thanks!

Today's project is this easy gift card holder. The DSP and ink I used have been discontinued...that was a sad day, I love those colors. Anyway, Here's how I made it:
Envelope:
Designer Paper (Rock ability Specialty): 6" x 9"
With paper in landscape position score at 3-3/4" and 7-1/2", turn 90 degrees and score at 1".
Fold on score lines using bone folder.
Hold in portrait position and you will see 3 rectangles where the score lines cross the 1" score line. Cut off the top and bottom rectangle, leaving the center one in place.
Fold in large flap. Apply adhesive to the inside edge of opposite flap and fold over onto larger flap. Use corner rounder on bottom flap & apply adhesive to bottom flap and adhere. Now you'll have your envelope.
Turn envelope over so the seams are on the top and open slightly. Center the 1-1/4" circle punch partially into envelope and punch a half circle.
Lid:
Kiwi Kiss Textured Card Stock cut with the Top Note die.
Fold in half in the landscape position and use bone folder to crease.
Using Mat Pack I punched a small hole in each bottom corner and inserted a black brad.
Tie a 16" piece of black grosgrain ribbon around lid and make bow or knot.
The stamp is from Vintage Labels, new clear stamp set from Sale-A-Bration and stamped in Kiwi Kiss onto Whisper White card stock. The greeting is also from Sale-A-Bration, Happy Moments and stamped it in Riding Hood Red. Punched it out with the Curly Label punch and adhered with dimensional.
Card:
Adhere Whisper White 3-1/8" x 4-5/8" to Kiwi Kiss Card Stock 3-1/4" x 4-3/4".
Stamp greeting at the top in Riding Hod Red.
Cut the gift card holder in Riding Hood Red CS, using the Card Petal die and the Big Shot. Fold 3 flaps inward and adhere with adhesive. Cut the 4 flap off at the score line. With the seams facing up. Take 1" circle punch and and partially insert into holder and punch half circle at the top.
Stamp presents from Happy Moments, in Riding Hood Red onto a 1-1/2" x 1-3/4" piece of Whisper White CS and adhere to a 1-3/4" x 2" of Kiwi Kiss CS.
Then attach with adhesive to the card holder.
Apply adhesive on seam side of card holder and attach on the lower half of card.
Using the Designer Label punch and a scrap piece of designer paper, punch tab for top of card.
Fold in half and apply adhesive to inside, bottom edges and attach to the top of the card.
Using Mat Pack again, punch a small hole in the bottom center of tab and insert a black brad.
Insert card into envelope and carefully slip into the lid.If you have any questions, please let me know.
I'm back on line again. woo-hoo! Our internet, phone and tv haven't been working properly since Friday night....so frustrating. The poor cable man is at our house right now still working on it, so I thought I better hurry and post, just in case it goes out again :)
For this project I cut and assembled 2 boxes with the Box #2 Bigz XL Die and the Big Shot, leaving the lid open. Punched the handle with the Large Oval Punch. Lined the 2 boxes up, back to back, lining up the punch with the oval to punch the 2nd handle. Applied Sticky Strip on the back of one box & adhered together. I then cut 2 pcs. 3-3/8" x 1-5/8" (for front & back)and 2 pcs. 2-3/8" x 1-5/8" (sides) of Sending Love Specialty paper (117153) from the new Occasions Mini Catalog that begins today! Attached the DSP with SNAIL adhesive. The hearts were punched with the new Small Heart punch (117193), which comes in the new punch style also in the new catalog. These new punches are awesome; save space and have better punching leverage.
If you haven't checked out the new Occasion Mini catalog, you can view a PDF version located in the right column of this page. Plus, it's Sale-A-Bration time , so for each $50 you spend, pick your free item from the SAB catalog; clear stamps, new punches, new paper, it's awesome!). Plus, place your SU order on my SU website & receive one of my tutorials FREE.
It's been snowing here periodically the last few days, so today's project is a treat bag with snowman kisses. I used a Black Polka Dot Window Sheet from the Night & Day Specialty DSP (Holiday Mini catalog) using the Bigz XL Fancy Favor die and the Big Shot (Snowfall Printed Widow sheet would have been prettier, but I didn't have any). I assembled the bag using Sticky Strip for a strong hold. The poem is printed on Bashful Blue card stock and sponged the edges in the same color ink. The snowman tag is from Merry & Bright, stamped on Whisper White card stock punched out with 1-1/4" punch and layered on top of 1-3/4" circle punched in Basic Black. Attached that to the scallop circle in Bashful Blue with a dimensional. I made the dots around the scallop with a Stampin' Write marker in Bashful Blue and tied to the bag with Silver Elastic Cord. The bag is a small Clear Cello bag filled with some Raffaello candies, which are almond, coconut treats, but you could use any white candy or even marshmallows.
I'm not ready for Christmas and still making gifts right up to Christmas Eve. I thought this would make a cute stocking stuffer and for $1, I couldn't resist....love those dollar bins : )
I printed the poem (listed below) on Whisper White and cut it out & the Real Red circle using the Circle Scissors Plus. The Glorious Green scallop circle was cut using the Big Shot and the Scallop Circle die. The stamp is from Punch Pals. I've been using that set a lot, but it's hard not to, since it has 12 stamps and they are all so cute.
This treat bag was made using the Bag with Scallops die cut. I cut a sheet of Cast A Spell DSP 2-1/2 x 12" and ran it through my big shot. I used a narrow piece because I'm not assembling with the sides of the bag and didn't want to waste any paper. I attached one end of the Tootsie Roll inside the bag with a little bit of snail. I then used the same DSP and turned it over to use the coordinating side cut 2-1/4" x 1-3/4" and used a Spooky Treats Rub on. I then cut a 5" piece of black & white grosgrain ribbon (love this ribbon) folded it in half and attached to the back of the label with snail and then attached it to the bag over the flap to hold it closed.
I know it didn't take longer than 5 minutes. I know I could make 20 in about an hour. These may be the treats I send to school and save the Hershey bars for me : ) So, if your looking for a little something to send to school this Halloween, you might want to give these a try.

Still looking for more ways to use your big shot? How about embellishing a plain white top and a pair of shorts. Then try making a matching book bag to get the kids ready for "Back to School".
Looking for more uses for your Big Shot and dies? Use a little fabric and decorate some plain dish towels. Don't sew...not a problem. You can adhere with fabric glue that you can purchase from Michael's and I love "Badge Magic" which is 2-sided adhesive that I've purchased from our local Scout Shop to adhere badges to a uniform. It works well on all projects that I don't want to sew. Here's how I use it:
Trace the image onto the paper side of the adhesive
Cut out your shape.
Remove the top layer, press fabric onto adhesive.
Peel off paper backing and adhere to project.
I them cover it with a pressing cloth and use a hot iron (no steam) for a 2 or 3 seconds.
Then heat in a clothes dryer for approx. 10 minutes and your set.
